Metro Hotel Ipswich International has stepped in to help a small school in the Lockyer Valley repair flood damage to its outdoor sporting facilities following the devastating floods that ravaged the valley earlier this year.
As a vital member of the Ipswich community, Metro Hotel Ipswich International has continued to work with the community to help people and businesses get back on their feet. When approached by Prenzlau State School with a request for help to fund the repair of their sporting field and cricket net, the hotel once again was quick to offer support.
“Metro Hotel Ispwich International had collected sporting memorabilia following the floods with the intention of auctioning the items at a gala event held at the hotel”, hotel general manager Alex van Kersen said. “Unfortunately, the event was cancelled and we still have a few items of value. It was wonderful to be able to donate one of these auction items to Prenzlau.
“Given the sporting nature of their cause, we chose to give them a Queensland Bulls cricket bat, signed by the team and framed locally by Rose City Artz’N’Framing in Warwick using supplies donated by Antons and glass from GHS in Brisbane.
“The framed bat is very impressive and reflects how everyone in the region has rallied together to do their bit following the floods.”
Mr van Kersen said Prenzlau is a small rural school with just 27 pupils located 30km west of Ipswich in the Lockyer Valley. The students and P&C are now selling raffle tickets with the signed bat as first prize to help fund the refurbishment of their school oval and cricket net. The auction will be drawn on Saturday July 30. People interested in purchasing tickets can contact the school on (07) 5425 7333 or purchase from Metro Hotel Ipswich International.
