Metro Hotels partners with world famous Shen Yun Performing Arts shows

Internationally acclaimed Shen Yun Performing Arts company is coming to Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra in early 2011 as part of their 100 city world tour, with Australian hotel chain Metro Hotels sponsoring their Australian visit – timed to coincide with Chinese New Year celebrations (see performance dates in each city below).

Based in New York and having performed 345 shows in 104 cities in 2010, Shen Yun Performing Arts is recognised as the world’s premier Chinese classical dance and music company, combining traditional Chinese elements with modern western themes.

Consisting mostly of ethnic Chinese who have grown up in the west, Shen Yun was formed in 2006 to revive the spirit of traditional Chinese culture and has become the largest ensemble of Chinese musicians and performers in the world.

In a coup for Sydney, the company will perform at the Capitol Theatre during the Chinese New Year Period from February 8-27 as part of their world tour. The performance will consist of 20 short artistic pieces, featuring Chinese dance, vocal solos and instrumental solos, and has been described as “immensely entertaining, beautiful, moving and inspiring.”

Metro Hotels COO George Bedwani said the Australian hotel chain had partnered with the company as it believes Shen Yun will not only appeal to Australia’s large Chinese ethnic population but also the broader community, and will bring a brilliant performance and important cultural event to Sydney.

“Metro Hotels is keen to support major international acts while in Australia, having recently hosted the Japanese performing troupe Drum Tao, the African dance troupe ‘Mother Africa’ in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and last year hosting performers from the theatrical dance spectacular ‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ for the duration of their shows,” said Mr Bedwani.

“Shen Yun is yet another world class performance which adds to the rich cultural mix of Sydney and Melbourne and showcases a 5000 year old culture with a modern flare in such a way that everyone, regardless of age or cultural background, will enjoy.”
